Memorial Weekend Cocktail Send Off

In light of the fact that Lup H.Q. is frantically scrambling to get ready to head to Vegas next week and all of the inherent stress that goes with that, compounded by the knowledge that our friends and family who are not in the jewelry industry are all planning on having wonderfully relaxing Memorial weekends while we are looking forward to a weekend spent hunched over our computers taking care of the work that we won't be able to do while we're in Vegas while also trying to squeeze in a pedicure and all of those last minute "I'm moving my entire apartment to Las Vegas for a week" travel needs, we figured it would be a good day for a Weekend Cocktail Send Off.  But with all that we have on our plates, we're hard pressed to actually come up with an official cocktail.  As one jewelry industry insider put it, "It's a totally wacked out, wacky scene!" and we couldn't agree more.  So to that end, we've got just the perfect drink to send you off with:

Patron Shot:
Take bottle of Patron (we like Silver), fill shot glass to the rim, drink in one gulp.  Some people like to lick salt, drink the shot, and then bite into a lime wedge but we here at Lup H.Q. take our shots without training wheels, especially after a week like this one.

 

Weekend Cocktail Send-Off

In the words of my idol, Martha Stewart, "A good cocktail is the ultimate party accessory."  So, with an eye to one of the first warm Saturdays in recent history, accented by a BBQ at Chez Remsen, here is your weekend cocktail send-off!  Here's hoping all of you enjoy this taste of Spring!

Vodka Martini

3/4 cup vodka
Olives for garnish

Add vodka to shaker filled with ice, shake until your hand is numb, poor into martini glass, garnish with olives.  Voila!  The perfect Spring....er, summer....er, winter....er, ANYTIME cocktail!

Weekend Cocktail Send-Off--Valentine's Day Cocktail

While I could come up with some special, red-infused, literal or gross interpretation of a Valentine's Weekend cocktail send-off (Alabama Slammer, anyone?), I'm instead going to give you a real love version of the Valentine's Day cocktail.  Love in that I love to drink it, and love in that someone who really loves me came up with this cocktail especially for me!  I think it might have been born of necessity--not enough club soda so we had to improvise maybe?  Anyway, while it's sort of a vodka version of a Tom Collins, I love this drink and will now name it, in honor of Valentine's Day, the Love Cocktail:

Love Cocktail

In high ball glass with ice pour:
3 count's vodka
Juice from half of a lime
1/2 teaspoon sugar

Stir well until sugar is dissolved
Add splash of club soda

Garnish with lime wedge and voila!  You've got some love in a glass!

Weekend Cocktail Send-Off--Homage to Leah

This week's weekend cocktail send-off pays homage to Leah, our trusted and valued Lupette, who is currently on the beach in Miami....oh, to be young and hitting the beach with your friends in Miami!  The below drink is both simple to make and, if you abide by the ridiculous-cocktail-snack-justification-theory, healthy.  Kinda like "Milk!  There's milk in the chocolate cake!" I say "Grapefruit juice!  There's Grapefruit juice in the Sea Breeze!"  It's also an IBA Official Cocktail (yes, there is such a thing):

Sea Breeze

Pour over highball glass filled with ice:
2 parts vodka of your choice (you can up that to 3 or 4 parts, depnds on the drinker)
4 parts cranberry juice
2 parts grapefruit juice
Mix with straw or spoon
While I tend to avoid using garnish on any kind of cocktail containing juice with pulp, a lime wedge will add a little color so go for it!

Weekend Cocktail Send-Off

I know the illustrious Victoria Gomelsky was supposed to submit her entry this Friday, but she's currently in Switzerland, and I'm sure she'll have lots of tales for us next Friday.  In the meantime, I'd like to, once again, thank Jeff Chenault for his inspiration with the weekend cocktail send-off.  Since you'd have to live under a rock to not feel even just a little bit Americana this week, so in that spirit, I give you the American as Apple Pie Home Baked Apple Pie Martini:

Baked Apple Pie Martini

Equal Parts:
Apple Pucker
Vanilla Vodka

Goldschlager - 1 count
ButterShots - 1 count

Shake with ice
Rim the glass with a Cinnamon and a little sugar mix.
Pour and enjoy!

Weekend Cocktail Send-Off

In the spirit of Jeff Chenault's post from last week, and because it is so cold in New York City (we know, we know, mom, it's even colder in the Midwest), we thought we'd wrap up this bitterly cold week with some warm spirits....quite literally!  

I was looking online to find the perfect recipe for a Hot Toddy, but according to Wikipedia, a Hot Toddy is pretty much any alcoholic beverage served warm.  Since in my past life I was a bartender I figured I'd resort to my own devices and give you one of my personal recipes.  While there is nothing extraordinarily unique about this particular Hot Toddy, it does have its claim to fame in that I often made it for one of my regular customers, The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen.  As any fan of his could tell you, Bruce is known for his marathon-length concerts, which leaves his famous voice in quite a state the next day, so he would often come in post-concert and say (all throaty and sexy) "Michelle, make me that thing you make me...." 

Below the recipe for the newly named Bruce Springsteen Hot Toddy:

One glass Chamomile tea (if you put a metal spoon in the glass before pouring in hot water, it will prevent the glass from breaking....or at least that's what I'm told, maybe you should use a mug!)
Generous helping of honey
Lemon juice squeezed from at least six lemon wedges
A splash of orange juice
A generous shot of Jack Daniels 

Serve with a smile and voila, winter chills (and throaty voice) begone!
