Today, January 26, marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year, one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture. I'll leave it to my six year old niece to plan a party involving pictures of dragons and fireworks, red clothing and Chinese food, because we here at Lup H.Q. are more focused on the year's significance than the festivities involved, which we find particularly relevant given the current economic environment. This year is the year of the Ox, which is a symbol of wealth and success through hard work and resilience. Maybe it's just a coincidence that President Obama was born in the year of the Ox? Or maybe we can just take it as a good omen? In either case, let's all take advantage of the excuse, today and over the next couple of weeks, to celebrate the new year by spending time with our friends and family, celebrating our existing good fortune, and looking forward to working hard and prospering in the coming year. If nothing else, you can always consider the Chinese New Year a second chance to take a crack at keeping to those New Year's resolutions you may have already fallen short on....
