Halloween Homage

While the below picture may seem like merely a disturbing statement about popular culture, and while you may not understand why such a statement would be made on the LupRocks.com gossip section, in reality, one of the men pictured below plays a prominent and visible role in the fine jewelry and accessories industries. 

Taking home the prize, for several years running, for absolutely the most awful awful wonderful wonderful costume of the season is our hero, Alex de la Hoya.  We thought nothing could top last year's Nacho Libre costume, for which Alex shaved his chest and grew a full-on mustache, but a body stocking and pumps?  Not to mention how he must have suffered through the night trying to hold his beer or vodka wearing those gloves (somebody get that man a straw!).  Now THAT is dedication!  So today, on All Hallows Eve, we wanted to take a moment to pay a little homage to our Halloween Hero (and West Coast Social Director), Alex Alvarez.

Pirate’s Bootie

With Fall upon us, our inner fashionista is dying to bring out the fabulous boot collection we've acquired over the years, but unseasonably warm temperatures make the boot a liability.  The have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too solution is the bootie, the season's must-have accessory that gives the look and feel of a boot, but with a little breathing room for your gams.

            

                                                

For those of you too intimidated to take on this great look - scared you will look like Jack the Pirate or your grandma in her orthopedic lace-ups - here are a few helpful hints:

Pair with mini-dresses, short skirts, or skinny jeans, and choose booties made of leather, patent-leather, or suede.  We like Ralph Lauren’s black Dillynn calfskin bootie, with a seductive high heal, and a perfect size black bow.  For the rocker girl in you, go for Manolo Blahnik’s suede Hair-Calf Ankle Boot with two big buckles – none resembling that of captain hook – these are great with super short minis, and come in fab fall colors.  And of course – Christian Louboutin’s Miss Fred is the perfect patent-leather version of this fall must have.  For the classic girl, Burberry’s more original Victorian Bootie with a thin lace up, spiked high heal, and glossy patent leather shine will prove you are perfectly en vogue.

BlumLux "DNA" Rings Play Starring Roll in NBC's Life

Early adopters of NBC's new hit show Life have already become accustomed to the investigative acumen of "Detective Charlie Crews" played by Damian Lewis. But on last night's episode, it was another shining star that revealed all of the clues! A set of DNA rings by rising star design house BlumLux played an integral roll as the "hero prop" that moved along the story line and helped the lead detective solve the murder in this buzz-worthy crime series.

The sleek 18k white gold and diamond men's bands were selected because of their distinctive and unmistakably BlumLux style: refined and distinctive with an edginess that makes it decidedly sexy. Just as in real life, where BlumLux men's jewelry helps express a man's personal style, these rings set the lead characters apart so effectively that the rings actually helped solve the crime. Amgad's Colored Diamonds Featured in W Magazine

Growing up, everyone has been filled with excitement upon looking up and seeing an arch of colors across the usually blue sky, at which point we have all screamed, “I think I see a rainbow!” This is how I felt, when flipping through the November 2007 issue of W Magazine I came across an article entitled, “Color Wheel: How to Buy Rare Rainbow-Hued Diamonds,” accompanied by a picture of a swirl of colored diamonds in different cuts and sizes.

To make up this diamond color wheel, W used eight out of twelve diamonds from LupRocks.com member Amgad, one of the leading wholesalers and foremost experts on colored diamonds. Vice president of Amgad, Jordon Fine is quoted in the article regarding how the shape or cut of a colored diamond affects its natural color from shining, although the article also covers sizes of existing colored diamonds, the origin behind colored diamonds, and the color diamond coding system.

Several Luprocks designers have made their mark in the predicted to be huge hit Gossip Girls. The ultra privileged Upper East Side leading ladies will be this year’s major trend setters, and we are so proud that they kicked off the season by sporting jewelry designs from LupRocks members.
